What "handmade in Bali" actually looks like — a walk through how STORMYY pieces come to life, from sketch to the rack.
We say "handmade in Bali" on every product page. Here's what that looks like, most days.
The morning: Miriam sketches
Most STORMYY pieces start as a feeling before they're a garment. Miriam Mirzaei, our founder, sketches in the mornings — usually at a café in Canggu, always with an iced latte and her notebook. She draws from her Persian-German upbringing, years of walking the Bali coastline, and whatever she wishes she could wear that day but can't find anywhere else.
Persian-named collections — Ava, Kimia, Darya, Mina, Nika, Tara — come out of this practice. Each name has meaning. Take a moment to read the product descriptions; there's a little story tucked into every one.
Fabric, hand-picked
Every bolt we use is hand-selected in person from Indonesian mills and suppliers we've worked with long enough to trust. We lean toward natural and recycled blends — cotton, modal, viscose, silk — chosen for how they feel in tropical heat and how they age through wash after wash. Some categories call for different technical fabrics, and we pick those carefully too.
The family studio in Bali
Our production partner is a local Balinese family of tailors. Open windows, a pura (Balinese temple) in the courtyard, and years of craft behind every stitch.
A piece moves through their hands in roughly the order you'd expect: pattern cutting, first sample, fit adjustments, small-run production, finishing. Sometimes it takes weeks of back-and-forth before the fit is right. We don't rush — good work takes the time it takes, and everyone on the team is fairly paid for theirs.
The final check
Every piece gets inspected before it's photographed or racked. Seams, drape, colour, the in-hand feel — if something's off, it goes back to the studio. We'd rather absorb the cost than ship something not-quite-right.
What this means for you
When you buy from STORMYY, you're buying something designed and sewn in Bali by a family we know by name, and checked by a team that sees every single piece. Shipped same-day across Bali, or tracked and insured worldwide via DHL Express.
That's what "handmade in Bali" means at STORMYY.
